Separate quantity decisions from money

The price tool starts with an agreed board-foot quantity. Allowance increases the order quantity; price per board foot is then applied to that larger quantity; optional sales tax is calculated from the material subtotal. Base quantity, allowance quantity, order quantity, subtotal, tax and total remain separate so a buyer can see exactly which percentage changed which amount.

Select a display currency and enter a price already denominated in that currency. The selector changes formatting only. It does not fetch exchange rates or convert a USD quote into CAD, AUD, NZD, GBP or EUR. Retain the currency code on any copied commercial note.

Worked example in USD

For 100 BF at USD 4.25 per BF with a 10% allowance, the tool adds 10 BF and prices 110 BF. The material subtotal is USD 467.50. At 8.25% tax, tax is USD 38.56875 and the displayed total is USD 506.07. The unrounded tax remains part of the internal total before currency formatting.

Allowance is not a grade or yield prediction

An allowance is a planning input chosen by the user. It may cover cutting loss, defect selection, matching or uncertainty, but the calculator cannot decide the right percentage. Do not describe the added amount as measured lumber. Delivery, minimum-order fees, surfacing, waste disposal and discounts are outside the model unless separately added to a commercial record.

Validation and commercial checks

Board feet must be positive. Price, allowance and tax must be finite and non-negative; tax is restricted to 0–100%. Extreme calculations that overflow are rejected by the calculation layer. Confirm whether the supplier taxes delivery or services, which rounding stage the invoice uses, and whether price is quoted per BF, per MBF, per piece or per linear foot before comparing totals.
