MBF means one thousand board feet here
BoardFoot Bench defines 1 MBF as 1,000 BF. Multiply MBF by 1,000 to obtain board feet; divide board feet by 1,000 to obtain MBF. The page states this convention because M, MBF and MMBF usage can vary across organisations and regions. Written units are safer in contracts.
The conversion scales a quantity only. It does not determine how the underlying board feet were tallied or whether a quoted number uses nominal dimensions, a log rule or a particular rounding convention.
Worked wholesale example
A quotation for 2.75 MBF represents 2,750 BF under this site convention. At USD 3.80 per BF, the material rate would apply to 2,750 BF, not 2.75 BF. Conversely, a 640 BF order is 0.64 MBF. Keep the leading zero to reduce misreading.
Avoiding abbreviation errors
Ask the other party to write “thousand board feet” at least once and confirm whether the rate is per BF or per MBF. Do not assume that a financial-style M or MM prefix carries the same meaning in every timber document. Preserve the original notation beside any converted value.
Precision and display
Large BF quantities often convert cleanly, but a small BF value may produce a decimal MBF result. The tool retains precision and displays enough digits to avoid turning a small order into zero. Apply contractual rounding only at the agreed final stage.
