Calculation architecture
Pure calculation functions are separated from React controls. Sawn-board rows validate positive finite dimensions and a positive safe-integer quantity before multiplying. Tally calculations retain valid unrounded row values and return explicit errors for invalid rows. Cost calculations keep quantity allowance, subtotal, tax and total separate.
Volume conversion uses fixed factors through board feet. Nominal comparison computes two explicitly entered geometries. Log calculations accept only retained table cells and keep gross, deduction and net values distinct. Scribner is unavailable at the interface even though research transcriptions may be retained for reconciliation.
Validation and failure behaviour
Required blanks, zero, negatives, non-finite values and overflow fail closed. Quantity must be whole. Percentages are non-negative, with deduction and tax bounded at 100%. Unsupported log diameters or lengths are rejected rather than interpolated. Interface errors describe the violated boundary instead of silently replacing it with zero.
Precision and rounding
Intermediate values use JavaScript number precision and are not rounded before subsequent steps. Formatting controls the visible number of decimals and currency presentation. Exact relationships such as 12 BF per ft³ and 144 in³ per BF remain unrounded; the metric factor retains the exact-inch-derived digits used in the calculation.
Release evidence
Unit fixtures cover known results, conversions, round trips, invalid inputs, overflow, log boundaries and deductions. Independent comparisons are retained separately from implementation tests. Browser QA covers output trails, mixed-row operations, consent states, responsive geometry, headers, links, console and network activity. A method is held when source identity or independent reproduction is incomplete.
Questions about this topic
Why not interpolate log tables?
The released evidence covers exact cells only; interpolation would introduce a new unvalidated model.
Are displayed decimals the stored value?
No. Formatting does not change the internal calculation.
How are corrections released?
Sources, fixtures and affected routes are updated together under a new immutable release candidate.
